I Did It
September 19th, 2005 | by Scott |When I began running back at the beginning of the year I set two goals for myself:
- Run 10 miles in one outing.
- Run 500 miles in 2005
Today, I ran 10 miles.
And I only had to stop once for a bathroom break.
Sometime in the next few weeks I will crest 500 miles.
Time to contemplate what is next on the agenda.

Well congrats! From 1988 to 1994 I ran 1,000+ for each of those years and ran 4 marathons. My best time was 3:48:12 in New Orleans…much of the route was hardest hit by Katrina.
Anyhow…I am older, fatter (much) but would like to do a marathon with you. BTW…my slowest time was a tad over 5 hours but I had the Arkansas 2-step if you know what I mean!
Wanna do a marathon with a 56 year-old guy!

Let’s do it. I’m slower than molasses though. It would take me 5+ hours at my current pace.

George stole my thunder — I was going to say three words: MAR - A - THON !!!!!
Either that…or have a 4th child!

I’m looking for a half-marathon for starters. Let’s go slowly shall we.
And Chris, I will never have another child. I’m done. Whoever said the transition from 2 children to 3 is easier that 1 to 2 should be shot.

Scott, My first organized run was the Cloverdale 10 miler in Montgomery, AL. My longest run to that point was 5 miles. I wore that cherished T for years!
A half marathon is surely within your capability at this time. Also, start your shirt collection by entering all the local runs.

Scott - It’s awesome that you’re running - and especially impressive that you’ve ramped up to 10 miles in 9 months! Took me a lot longer than that! You should run the White Rock Marathon (www.runtherock.com) in Dallas on December 11th. At least the half-marathon. Who knows, maybe I’d come over and run it with you!
