I have way to much to do. I over-extended myself on mystery shops this week.
And Sunday is our annual friend day.
That means pressure to give a better sermon than usual. I’m battling the ungodly temptation to focus on what I say rather than what God needs to say.
What’s more important on Friend’s day: what I say or what God does? Traditionally, in the Churches of Christ we have placed too much emphasis on the sermon and, more importantly, the invitation (or altar call). I am at the place where I don’t see much point in the traditional invitation anymore.
But I am still battling the flesh and putting way too much pressure on myself to “knock one out of the park.”
I have a Master’s in preaching for crying out loud. I know better than this.
Oh, and I have no time to be addicted to this. I thought I was over this game 7 years ago.
One more note, I got 26 out of 30 right on my Oscar predictions. Not too shabby.
