One of My Favorite Songs of All Time

It is. A young Sir Bob Geldof. Do you remember what the song is about?

It’s an all-too-eery Columbine-esque situation as I remember it. We had a another hostage thing and shooting up here close to us this week. Not good.

It was, Jim. The lyrics are tragic and don’t fit with the more cheery theme of the video. 17 year old Brenda Ann Spencer opens fire killing 2 at her school in California.
When asked why, her response was “I Don’t Like Mondays.”

Wow, I didn’t know what that song was about……it certainly goes with 70’s/80’s punk band angst.
I always liked that song too. But the song about days of the week from that era that would be in my top 10 would be the The Cure’s “Friday, I’m in Love”.

Yeah, she’s actually still in prison. She now claims she was on Angel Dust at the time and that her father was molesting her. (Remember those old videos about PCP?) Her dad still visits her most every week too.
Her house was across the street from an elementary school. She used a rifle she had got for Christmas and spent 6 hours terrorizing people. Two adults were killed and 9 hurt.
I’ve heard that Boomtown Rats were doing a radio interview when the news came on about the incident. She was callous and unrepentant.
I love “Friday, I’m in Love” by the way.

Well, I was enjoying the video till I read the comments. Tragic stuff.
I don’t like Mondays either. I guess it is good that I am somewhat well balanced…

Scott, why would this be one of your top ten songs?

Dad, the song does not make light of that event but, like great songs, tries to make sense of it.
It is ultimately a song about loneliness, alienation and the senselesness of violence.
Ask Mike Harris. He loves the song too.

I love it, too. Bought “The Fine Art of Surfacing” in high school, and just happened to listen to “Someone’s Looking At You” on the iPod this morning!

You are a good man, Matt Elliott. So many great Boomtown Rats songs: She’s So Modern, (I Never Loved)Eva Braun.
Classic stuff.
