Top 10 Tuesday: Things I Would Rather Take a Beating Than Do

April 10th, 2007 | by Scott |

For this entry these are things that crop up far too often in my life that I would prefer to avoid.

10. Get up before 7 AM. Just a few short years ago that was 10AM. And I remember a time before that when I would not want to get up before noon. Those days are long gone and I have no desire to sleep that late ever again. However, 7 isn’t too much to ask, is it?

9. Go to Froofy Restaurants. Seriously, what is the purpose of a restaurant if it doesn’t have a healthy selection of fried foods? Yes, I typed that sentence. Souper Salad? Please.

8. Fly. Fortunately I haven’t had to do this in a while. I hate flying. If God had intended us to fly He would have given us wings. The mere thought of sitting in a metal tube hurtling 7 miles up in the air at the speed of sound gives me the heebs.

7. Shopping for Women’s Clothing. There is no way that can come out positively unless you absolutely nail the right color, size, style and occasion. And that means that I have had to have paid a whole lot closer attention to these things than I obviously have.

6. Getting a Haircut. Man, I hate going. If I could get the better half to sign off on it, I would shave my head bald right now.

5. Yard Work. I know many of you find it therapeutic and love working in the yard. I find it therapeutic that I can toss a few books to a college student and get him to do it for me.

4. Moving. Better said, I hate packing in anticipation of moving. Which we are doing in two days. We have boxes. We have stuff to put in boxes. But the stuff and the boxes have not been properly introduced at this point.

3. Going to any Event that requires multiple layers of clothing. Give me jeans and a t-shirt. Isn’t that enough? It’s bad enough that the mindset that believes that ties are a proper adornment for men still persists in my world. But suits, vests or sweaters? Uhh, no.

2. Talking on the Phone. I hate phones. I will beg my wife to make the simplest of phone calls. The sheer prospect of looking up the number, dialing it, waiting for it to ring and either get an answer or a machine is just too much. It’s why God invented email.

1. Going to the Dentist. Or the Doctor. Or anything that involves the use of a waiting room. And the use of sharp instruments. Seriously, dentures wouldn’t be that bad would they?

Thoughts? What do you hate doing?

    2. Tell Pat Robertson he’s right
    3. Buy a James Dobson book

I couldn’t think of any more and my time is crunched. I will say, Scott, that you are missing out by not wearing layers of clothes. Not only is it warm in the winter, there’s nothing that looks better (IMHO) than a v neck cashmere sweater over a well fitting dress shirt, with a tie and some blue jeans. Oh, and a nice blazer is bonus. Also, be glad you have hair. I’m only giving myself til 27 before I have to shave it all off, because its going away on its own. Cherish your head of hair my friend.

I hate watching serial TV shows. I think I have adult ADD. I want all my issues resolved in one sitting, thank you.

Also, Scott do you mind if I rip off this format for one of my blogs, maybe do a Top Four Friday or something? As if you’d ever know, I don’t even know why I’m asking, it’s not like you invented the list. You mind?

Also also, speaking of CCM labels Scott have you ever done a top 10 CCM songs?

    Scott -

I’m with you (not in any particular order) on 2, 4 and 5.

I do 8, 9 and 10 all the time and don’t mind them at all. In fact, with an upcoming assignment, I’ll start getting up at 5am - and I’m actually kind of looking forward to it!

I usually enjoy 7 with Trish.

I’m with you in theory on 3 adn 6, though they don’t seem like a big deal to me. I certainly don’t enjoy 1, but I don’t dread it or overly procrastinate doing it.

Be thankful you have a full head of hair.

Love to fly. Hate driving anywhere more than a few hours away. It’s not really a vacation to me unless the family gets to fly.

I am a morning person. I would many times rather be up at 5 than have to stay up until midnight.

Donna, I’m going to start running again. Next week!

    Justin, umm, ok.

Kevin, I hate to be a wet blanket but I love onions.

Greg, actually there is a patent pending for top 10 tuesdays but as long as you pay a percentage then we are cool. And yes, I’ve done a top 10 CCM post. I’m too lazy to look it up though.

    Jeff, I wouldn’t say 3 and 6 are a BIG deal. I just don’t like them.

Len, I don’t have a full head of hair. I have a huge bald spot, like a reverse yarmurlke.

From your list, I’d have to put moving at the top of my list. We moved four times the first year and a half we were married (1977-78). We finally bought a house in 1978 and have lived there ever since! It’s great! I’ve moved kids in and out of dorms and apartment though. And have you ever noticed how HOT it is when you move in/out of the dorm? And we’re always on an upper floor and there are no elevators. UGH

I realize that my comments may have come off a little, ahem, gay, and I just wanted to clear up, that if I had to choose clothing to wear for the rest of my life (on the assumption that it won’t be warmer than 60 degrees, I would choose that combination of clothing.

Ok, I don’t think that clarified. Still sounds weird. Can’t take it back now.

Belinda, my girls are never leaving home so I won’t be able to find out :D

Justin, there’s no way back from that comment.

I’m with you on 1,2, & 3 they would also be in the same positions for me.

I would add spend any length of time in New York, it’s too crowded and too chaotic.

At this time of year, I’d have to put “Give the TAKS test” near the top.

And can you tell by the dates I am really behind on my bloggin?

  20. By justin on Apr 15, 2007 | Reply

Hmm, I think “at?” should be in the parenthesis and not the “with?”. I’m a little offended.

And here I thought this was an open and accepting blog, and all the democrats are hating on my love of fashion. ;)

BTW, I’m engaged. to a woman. I am very straight.
