Some House-Keeping
May 3rd, 2007 | by Scott |I got an email this morning stating that my host for this blog is pulling the plug at the end of the month. That means I have to find a new host, pronto.
I’ve elected to move it over to a new host but I am not sure when that will occur. It will take 24-72 hours to transfer the blog over to the new host but I do not know if that will affect the access to this site when that happens.
If so, and you can’t access my blog, I haven’t pulled the plug and stopped blogging. I’m way too needy for affirmation to do that.
On another note, let me re-iterate that I do not moderate comments. However, I have set up one piece of moderation: first-time commenters. If you have never commented before, it will be hung up until I give the OK. From that point you should be able to comment freely.
I’ve done a lot of work to help curtail the influx of spam and have reduced the amount I receive from about 2000 per day to 1-2. At least for now.

yeah, got the same email. did you go with the suggested host? I did, and went ahead and backed up my db this morning, so hopefully this will go smooth. I’m assuming, since WY will still be online, there shouldn’t be any interruption.

Yeah, I went with the suggested host. I haven’t backed up yet, but will soon.
Have you got a confirmation from the new host, because I have not received any emails or anything yet.

I got the “welcome” emails pretty much immediately. I’ve logged on and checked out the control panel and stuff, but that’s about it. I did it early, though, soon after I got Justin’s email.
I also opened a ticket in support a little later to ask a few questions, but haven’t gotten a reply there yet.
I don’t know how many people are using WY, so I wondered how much new traffic the new host is getting today.

I would say I did the sign-up about 9. Hopefully I will get a confirmation soon. I’m pretty lost when it comes to this stuff.

Spoke too soon. Just got a reply on my ticket. After signing up and logging on, my disk quota was showing up as 1 MB(!) (instead of the 1/4 G I should have). Apparently, they’re “working on it” now.
I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I don’t want to have to do this again…

Yeah, I’m a little perturbed to begin with that this was sprung on us so rapidly. And now that I still haven’t got any confirmation I’m not too happy.

have you heard anything? I just checked and it looks like my files were just recently moved over.

I think I’m going to see how this turns out for the two of you before I make my move.

Mine is done. I signed up around 8:15 or so yesterday morning, and my files were moved around 9:00 or so last night. I switched the name servers after that, and now it’s done. Pretty painless. Everything appears to be fine.

I still haven’t received word from them. I wonder if something went wrong on my end. I’ll try it again.

okay, it’s not been quite as smooth as it was initially. I’ve two things suddenly “break” today that were initially working fine. One is resolved, the other I’m still waiting on. Hopefully, all will be well soon.

How do I know if the files were moved. I’ve changed the name servers and everything seems to be working. Am I done?

Everything finally seems to be working. It was not smooth. But it appears to be done.
