My New Business Plan

August 10th, 2007 | by Scott |

The other night I went to Hastings to feed my used-book addiction. While there I noticed a huge display of “Harry Potter Moves To Jonestown” or whatever the latest entry in that series is.

Upon closer inspection I noticed that the audio version of “Harry Potter Spikes the Punch” was selling for 80 bucks. That’s 80 US dollars. As my mom would say, “think of the number of mouths that could feed.”

I can’t imagine anyone choosing to pay that much to hear someone read to them but here is my offer:

I will read, over web-cam, “Harry Potter and the Mass Immolation” or any book of your choosing for 15% less than the list price. In other words, I will read “Harry Potter and the Angry ATF Agents” for only 68 dollars.

You can’t beat that anywhere.

    Pure genius.

Do you need a bookkeeper? I’m happy to offer my services. My degree may be in biochemistry, but if you’re going to be making that kind of coin just from reading out loud, this is a no-brainer!

All I can say is: lay off the enrgy drinks, man…

If you do that, you’ll have to read the Harry Potter books if someone pays you to. Then you couldn’t brag that you’ve never read them.

Also, what if someone wants you to read an Ann Coulter book?

Marie, that’s a great idea. Come on board. I will also need to find one of those lawyer types. There might be some questions about legality that we might need to obfuscate.

Jim, no idea what you are talking about :D

Greg, this is pure business. I would read an Ann Coulter book wearing a Sam Brownback T-Shirt if the cash is right. I can be bought.

I think you would have a right to charge extra, though, if they expect you to read an Ann Coulter book out loud without making gag noises.

how about extra charges for the commentary?

I’ve been thinking about this. When it comes to a book like Coulter’s I’ll bring Tracy in to read since it needs a female voice.

Now, the commentary I would be willing to throw in for free with some titles including the aforementioned titles. For example, buy LeeRoy Brownlow’s classic and get a free bonus disk.

While at my mom’s I actually ran across a Rush Limbaugh book ‘See I Told You So’. To think I had actually read that. I’m so ashamed. Nobody could pay me enough to read that again.

No way I would vote for that guy.

How much do you want to vote for Ron Paul?

I volunteer to vote for Ron Paul for free. And I am already reading the latest installment of Harry Potter. Not to undercut Scott, well actually that is the point, I will start reading aloud into my DSR and send anyone the wav for half of what Scott’s charging. And I do a great ghoul voice!

Dude! You know I can delete this comment right? I can bring you on staff and pay you a nice little salary.

    I don’t do little! Oh wait, that’s all I do salary-wise. I’m in.
