Chuck E. Cheese Inspired Questions

September 14th, 2007 | by Scott |

Yes, we took the kids to that dreadful place last night, the bane of all parents existence. Fortunately, it was a fast and painless experience. We got there at 5 and were the only people there for the first half of our visit. There were just a couple of people who trickled in throughout. And no parties!

God is good.

Anyway, here are my questions for those so disposed to answer:

1. Do you let your kids beat you in games? If so, at what age do you make them start beating you?

2. When playing Skeeball do you go for the high risk/high reward 100,000 holes or do you keep it down the middle playing for the easier 40-50,000 holes?

Rarely let Cameron beat at one on one, just enough to keep him coming back for more. Now, I’d beg for those times back again. He’s 6′ tall, shoots from anywhere, shoots threes, and drives by me on the left or right and pretty much thrashes me. I can still beat him at HORSE though (the left-handed free throw, and no-look shot always gets him; although his shot from 40′ always gets me!!!)

I let my little one beat me but she’s just turning 3 in a couple of weeks so I’ll keep letting her win for a couple of more years. But it’s very humbling to have to blow a game of Candyland.

I always try for the big payout figuring if I miss it still will land for some points.

I’m adding this to the list of things to think about before becoming a parent.

And Chuck E Cheese is a favorite of the kids my wife is a nanny for, and I don’t understand why they will play all the ridiculous games and not skeeball. Its definitely the best game, and one of two redeeming things about Chuck E Cheese. The other is teaching kids how to save. Speaking of which, anyone notice the massive inflation regarding tickets at CEC? I used to get an army man for 5 tickets, now it takes 50. Must be those machines that play like a lottery where you can get 200 or more tickets if you press the button at the right time.

The only thing I have to add to the CEC discussion is this: Thank God for GermX! Those kid places totally skeeve me out.

    “God is good.”

That made me laugh and laugh! Right here at my desk! My youngest is 27 - is the pizza still as bad as it used to be?? My kids loved skeeball. You know we paid a fortune for those puny little prizes.

As for “letting them win,” that’s a hard one. I believe I’m much more prone to let my grandkids win than I was with my kids.

I like a crisp crust and it was definitely that. However, it is about the worst pizza you can buy at any chain.

I agree, CEC has horrible pizza, impressively so. It is as if they are saying, “We know that the only reason you are here is for your kids, so deal with it.”

But that is not the reason I write. Some of you material has caught my interest. I found you while using Google to try to find a quote from Rich Mullins on politics for my blog (http://joshkelley.blogspot.com/).

I noticed that you are looking for a new position. Are you interested in an Associate Pastor postion at a large church? I don’t know anything about your ministry skills, but I like your perspective.

If you are interested in hearing more about our church, go to our website http://www.hisplacechurch.com, or email me at joshk@hisplacechurch.com.
