Ponca City, Oklahoma
October 3rd, 2007 | by Scott |Yep, you heard that right. At the end of the month we will be heading north to Ponca Town. We accepted the offer to work with a new church start-up there in the Sooner state. (Luckily, it’s only 3 hours from Fayetteville.)
The church is young and full of promise and opportunities. I really think that it is positioned to reach out to some of the “de-churched” in the area. We already have our house nailed down and Chloe’s school lined up. Now, we spend the next couple of weeks closing up shop and preparing to move.

“Another city, Cross, vied with Ponca City to become the leading city in the area. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway had originally opened a station in Cross and refused to open one in Ponca City saying the two cities were too close to warrant another station. Citizens of Ponca City jacked up the train depot in Cross and moved it to Ponca City in the dead of night making Ponca City the railroad connection. Cross was later incorporated into Ponca City.”
Don’t mess with Ponca City. These people are hard core.
I’m happy for you. Lord God, glorify Yourself through Scott and his family and his work in Ponca City. Be merciful to them and shower blessings in abundance on them.

Wonderful! The farmer and the cowman SHOULD be friends, I always say.

Thanks for the well wishes. I look forward to blogging about the transition.
Greg, let that be a lesson to you. Bartlesville, you are on notice.
Matt, you really say that often?

Scott, Tracy and Granddaughters, we are glad it is Oklahoma. I have enjoyed working there the past 4 years on the Gov. job. Closest I got to Ponca was Stillwater. Anyway, I like OK. and feel its a good fit for you.

Great news, glad to hear it.

Congratulations Scott. Ponca is a great town–I have spent some time there, and the people are very genuine.
I live 90 minutes away, but the bank I sell investments and securities for has two branches there (Bank of the West). Although it is not a territory that I normally cover, I do get up there on occasion to meet clients.
It would be great to take you to lunch sometime. Consider the invitation open. Let me know when you get settled in.

Of course I immediately thought - driving distance to Fayetteville!
Congratulations.
BTW, I have on my “I READ BANNED BOOKS” shirt today!

Good stuff, Scott. I’m glad you are “Sticking” with ministry. Sometimes it just sticks with us, sticks on us, we can’t get away from it…

I am really glad to hear this news for you and your family. There is a lot to be said about living in a small town. There are times when my heart aches for living in a small town. God’s blessings!

Congrats bro! *breathing a sigh* Many prayers have been offered on your family’s behalf. We hope to get to see you guys before you leave town! How about some congratulatory margaritas?

That’s gonna make it hard for me to awkwardly and randomly drop by your office as if I were a Scott Freeman groupie, but obsessed fans always find a way.
In all seriousness, I know God is and will continue to bless your work. My prayers are with you.

JasonK, I will definitely take you up on that. Good to have neighbors.
Cindy, I got dibs on Auburn
Just kidding, I won’t be there yet. But I have told Tracy we are getting season tickets. I view it as a part of my ministry. And I need one of those shirts.
Clint, sounds like a plan.
Thanks to all for the well wishes and prayers. And Jeff, drop by anytime that you are passing through Ponca City and explain where you are going to actually need to pass through Ponca City.

I’m really glad for you guys. Your new small town is still bigger than my small town! Hopefully, we’ll meet again but I was surely glad to meet you, Tracy, and the girls this summer in Alabama.

Many congratulations to you, Scott! I am so happy for you and your family. I can’t imagine what the last year or so has been like, but I’m glad you’ll get a chance to continue your current ministry in another context. Peace and blessings!

We are so looking forward to you being here! Your friends are funny to read…I especially like their ideas for sermons! Did anyone tell you your office is bright purple?
By Kayte on Oct 4, 2007 | Reply
Just kidding about the office color…but you might want to bring a tv tray to use for a desk for a while!

Congrats Scott!
I’ve been to Ponca City once…in 2000…to visit Conoco…don’t remember much about it…conversation was mostly limited to carbon fibers
By Donna on Oct 4, 2007 | Reply
Sounds like a perfect opportunity….maybe I can come by if I make it to Tulsa next spring/winter whenever….is it close??
By Belinda on Oct 4, 2007 | Reply
I didn’t know anyone actually lived in Oklahoma!! Congrats!
By Tracy on Oct 4, 2007 | Reply
Kayte, sounds great. Purple is my favorite color. It will be really soothing
Oh, and these aren’t my friends.
Jonathan, my interview focused on carbon fibers too.
Donna, I’ll see you there. We are about 90 miles away.
Belinda, it’s the 27th most populous state. I just learned that.

See, I told you there was something out there just for you. Congrats!!!! So you’re leaving one tornado alley for another.
My mom’s twin sister (who has since passed away) and her family lived in Ponca City but the majority of their life was spent in Pryor which we visited regularly during summer vacation while growing up.
Do recall you mentioning being from Arkansas, so is Fayetteville your hometown? My first boyfriend when I attended Oklahoma Christian many moons ago was from Fayetteville.
Wish you, Tracy, and the kids all the best. Ponca City is lucky to have you (and it’s our loss).
By Scott on Oct 4, 2007 | Reply
The above comment from Tracy is actually from me.
Debbie, Little Rock is my hometown but Fayetteville is the home of God’s team. Thank you for the kind words.

I don’t think you could pay me enough for my Auburn ticket…unless you wanted to just have your first paycheck direct deposited to my account.

Opps! I apologize for the split infinitive in the above post; I didn’t catch it until I had hit submit.

Scott, I am so glad to see that you and your family will remain in ministry. I believe you have a gift there and it lightens my heart to see that you are called to a new place. FYI, Hugh has relatives in Pauls Valley, OK, so we have actually heard of Ponca City. God go with you in the coming weeks and always. E.

Thanks, Emily. And if you are ever in the area, stop in.
