Where To Go Worship
October 5th, 2007 | by Scott |I have 3 Sundays with no place to go. I hope to use that as an opportunity to check out some of the other faith traditions in the area.
I really hope to visit our cousins at a Disciples congregation.
There is an Anabaptist church that looks cool but it’s about 30 miles away.
There is a church near us that is offering 30 minute worship services but, really, what’s the point?
Where would you go? Any suggestions?

We did this our first year in grad school. My favorite experience and most enlightening was visiting a Quaker church. The silence was overwhelming. I also appreciated my high church experiences - the Episcopal church and the Presbyterian church.

I suggest high church, to experience the liturgy; Hispanic or Russian or Korean to experience the cultural worship; and Morman or JWitness to make you thankful for the truth.

1. Check out University Baptist church here in Waco. (DCB won’t be here for a bit…next time is 10/28)
2. Come and fellowship with us “Home churchers here in the Brookview neighborhood.”
3. Experience some independent church somewhere. I have no idea why you guys would enjoy liturgical or “high” church services. I don’t see much Jesus in it……just man. But hey that is own crappy opinion.

Better yet…..take a flippin break! Sleep in Sundays and watch CBS Sunday morning and read the paper in bed!

Joe, Anabaptist is as close as I can get in Waco to Quakers. I agree with you and Rod that I do need to check out some liturgy.
Clint, I’ve been to UBC–good stuff.

I’d do the 30 min service just to see what it was about. Drive thru church…thank goodness we don’t have a microwave saviour!!

There’s this TV preacher named Joel Osteen that I think you would really like. Stay in bed and go to church through the wonders of technology!

Mommaria, I have to admit I am intrigued. It is supposed to be designed for those who have to work on Sunday. I might swing by and let people know what it’s like.
Krister, would playing the “Your Best Life Now” board game suffice?

Scott, I am stunned that you would want to be away with your family from the church that has supported you the past twenty or so years. You can find out about others on the internet.

Dad, I think it’s important to see what is going on at other places as well. If I could be anywhere right now it would be in Ponca City. But while I am “free” I thought it would be good to see what other people are doing. Especially if we have moved past the idea that “we” are the only ones going to heaven.

If you haven’t been yet, I recommend checking out Church under the Bridge, which meets under I-35. My husband and I went there once before we moved and I really enjoyed it.

How ’bout just coming on up to Ponca and enjoy a few Sundays “on the other side” of the pulpit! Also, our son, Alex, a sophomore at Oklahoma Christian goes to the Spencer Church in Spencer, OK (a suburb of OKC). He absolutely loves it there!

JP, I could. But I don’t want to drive to Dallas.
Carolyn, I’ve been meaning to attend for 3 years now. I love what Jimmy Dorrel has done in Waco.
Kayte, Tracy says I can’t leave early.
