The Biggest Injustice to Razorback Fans…

November 10th, 2007 | by Scott |

…is to allow this guy to finish the season as head coach.

Fourth and One and McFadden and Jones are on the bench?

Explain this to me, Houston. Then go pack up your office.

Seriously, six carries in the first half?? There is no way Tennessee can stop McFadden. It’s good for them they don’t have to. Houston Nutt is doing a great job of that himself.

You ought to live in TN right now and have to put with this. We are getting so outplayed it is not even enjoyable for my church people to smack talk me……it’s too easy.

He should be fired, or should resign, immediately.

Baylor’s coach will not be back next year. Houston, Waco is calling. I know a place for rent.

when I saw that, I said to myself, “That’s what everyone is going to be talking about this week.” That sad thing is, that kind of thing has happened more than once this year. I can’t imagine a worse play call than to have the two best RB’s in the conference on the bench facing 4th and 1. I simply cannot comprehend the mind that would even consider that, much less actually follow through with it.

They simply must show him the door. The man is incompetent.

I thought Arkansas could beat Tennessee and Mississippi State. I don’t believe we will win another game this year. I watched the first 10 minutes of the game and had to quit, my heart couldn’t stand it. I agree, Baylor would be a good place for Houston.

I give Houston Nutt credit for making the Hogs respectable again after the Crowe/Kines/Ford years. He at least made us competitive in the SEC.

And it looks like Jones was hurt but McFadden was still available. But that’s not this just this year. There is a repeated history of mental mistakes, untimely stupid penalties, turnovers, squandering leads, and improbable play calls that have marred so many of our games in recent years. I was able to overlook a lot of that in the past but to have the level of talent that he amassed going into last season and then to have squandered so much of that is enough to surpass that of Marty Mornhinweg.

Taking nothing away from the four teams we have lost too so far but I cannot accept that any of them were better, talent-wise, than we are. So fault must lie somewhere.

Nutt should have been fired prior to this season, but I’m not really sure if we accomplish anything by firing him now, with three games left.

Let him finish out the season, then show him the door.

p.s. It would’ve been nice to have a competent quarterback today on the fourth and goal plays we had to go for. I hear they have a pretty good one who is red-shirting at USC. He was even an Arkansas native…

I know that there is probably nothing that will or can be done with us between AD’s. Hopefully Nutt will just do the right thing and find something else at the end of the year.

It’s basketball season now, anyway :)

I keep hearing people bring up Mustain as if he would solve all of the problems, but I’m still not convinced he ever really wanted to be at Arkansas in the first place. In my mind, Nutt is the root of all of the problems.

I would agree about him bringing them back up to some level of competitiveness, but I think he’s done all he can do and he won’t get any better. At some point, they have to tell him it’s time to move on. I think that time was a few years ago, but I think even some of his supporters among the fans are turning on him now.

I am, however, excited about basketball. I’ve always like Pelphrey and I’m confident that he’ll get the job done. I worked with a UK guy when I was in Alabama, when Pelphrey came to S Alabama, and we talked about how he was going to be at a major program before long. I’m glad they got him.

I think Heath was another Nutt - he was only going to take them to a certain level and no further. They should win the West, and I think they can challenge Tennessee for the overall. Only time will tell, and how well they’ll adapt to Pelphrey and his system, but I think it’s going to be a good year.

Greg, that’s exactly what I meant. Arkansas won’t make it to the next level with Nutt at the helm. If they couldn’t perform better with this caliber of talent think of how awful they are going to be next year when everyone is gone. I bet he is rethinking LSU at this point.

    Greg,

Mustain was plenty interested in being at UA, until Nutt put the axe on the offense that he promised to let Malzahn implement (the offense that Mustain won Parade PoY honors running).

Basically, Nutt’s ego has led to a number of casualties…Mustain, Malzahn, the 2007 season, possibly McFadden’s Heisman campaign, and hopefully, his own job.

I’m excited about the basketball Hogs as well. I went to the game last night and they looked pretty rough on offense, but it’s very early. Pelphrey got the crowd fired up though, which is not something that could be said for Heath.

I agree with you about Heath being like Nutt in that he was only capable of bringing the team to a certain level. The difference with Heath is that he behaved integrity while here and wasn’t a constant source of embarrassment off the field.

I’m just speechless after that game….

But Greg is right, at least basketball season is here and both teams that I root for - the Hogs and our local Memphis Tigers - are primed for good (maybe even great in the case of Memphis) years.

Luke, I agree that, had Houston kept the promises regarding Malzahn’s offense, etc. that Mustain would be happy to be there. But without the hiring of Malzahn, promises made regarding his offense, etc, I don’t think Mustain would have ever set foot on campus. I could be wrong, but that’s the impression I get from the whole situation as it played out. When it became apparent they weren’t going to be doing that - at least not to the degree it was supposedly promised, he fled (as well as Malzahn), so it seems that if that had never been a promise made to begin with, he might have never shown up there. I have to wonder if they’d unloaded Nutt a couple of years ago and hired someone who could coach a QB, maybe Mustain would still be there.

I figure the roundball Hogs may go thru a few growing pains, so to speak, as they get used to a new coach over the first month or so, but I think they’re going to have a good year.

Matt, I’ve heard that freshman guard for UM (his name escapes me now) is pretty impressive. I’ll look forward to seeing him play. And Dorsey needs to lay off the David vs Goliath comparisons this year until he learns who won that fight…

    Greg,

Ya, I think you’re right on target.

Luke, you go to the U of A, right? I’m interested in what the atmosphere is like on campus right now. Is the discontent with Nutt fairly widespread there?

    Scott,

I’m actually a Harding grad, but I live in Fayetteville and have a lot of friends up on The Hill (and spend some time there myself).

I would say that PRIOR to this season, feelings about Nutt were divided across the state. He was largely unpopular in Northwest Arkansas, while his support was generally centered in the Little Rock area.

I think the student body was somewhere in between—not too crazy about his off the field behavior, but happy with a 10-win season.

Now that the season has unfolded in a disappointing fashion (our biggest win is a home game against South Carolina and it took career highs from D-Mac AND Felix to pull it off), the student body has turned on him. They wear black-out shirts to games, hold up anti-Nutt signs, and boo his mind-numbing play-calling.

If the student body could take a referendum today, Nutt would be out at the end of the season, and I think by a pretty widespread margin.

How do you have such an inept offence with two potential top 10 picks in the draft next year? As a Dolphin fan I am glad to know we’ll be able to get Mcfadden, as him and Ronnie Brown in the same backfield should be a pair that even a guy like Nutt could win with.

Don’t overestimate Nutt. But yeah, it looks like he could be a Dolphin. Or a Ram.

Just got a call from my nephew in Springdale. The stations are reporting that Nutt is gone. Please be true.
