If It’s About The Best Player In The Country…

November 24th, 2007 | by Scott |

…then here is your Heisman trophy winner:

He is far and away the best player in the country and far and away the greatest player to ever suit up for Arkansas. He had to wait as a sophomore last year when he should have won the award. It’s his year.

I don’t think my heart can take much more. I grew up in Arkansas so I cheered them through their 4 overtimes yesterday. Now, having lived here in Knoxville for a very long time we rooted for the Vols today and they put us through another 4 overtimes. Another win. McFadden deserves the Heismann.

I know what you mean, Steve. Pure cardiac time.

But it’s never about the best player in the country, is it?

I say McFadden or Tebow, flip a coin.

I’ll give you McFadden he is probably the only one who stepped up though Chase Daniel looked good tonight. So who is the National Champs this year?

Hard to argue with you, Scott. McFadden is something special.

Tebow makes a great argument. But he’s still not the best player in college ball. And if the practice is not to award sophomores then Tebow doesn’t win for the same reason that McFadden didn’t last year.

McFadden is great, but how can you say that Tebow isn’t better? Over 20 Touchdowns running and passing? No one else has that!

All I’m excited about is that the SEC has TWO Heisman Hopefuls.

Tebow is great, no doubt about that. He’s a new proto-type of QB, something that hasn’t been fully seen.
But McFadden will go down as one of the greatest running backs in SEC history. Every team targeted him and him alone. He played four games hurt and still outgained what he ran for last year. He will finish as the second all-time rusher in the SEC. If he spend the time at QB his numbers would be greater than Tebow’s and he will be the #1 overall draft pick. That sound is Miami salivating right now over this guy.
200 yards against ‘Bama. 321 yards against USC. 206 against LSU. UT shut him down when he ran for 120 yards. All of this splitting carries with another pretty decent back.
He’s the best player in college football.

I agree with you, Scott. He’s the best. And Tebow, although he’s a specimen, is definitely the product of the right system, not unlike another Florida QB who earned Heisman hardware (Danny Wuerfel). But the Downtown Athletic Club tends to discount sophs, so I think McFadden has the slight edge. Regardless, he’s a surefire top 2 or 3 pick next year, although I’m not sure the ‘Phins are ready to pull the plug on Ronnie Brown just yet.

I’d find it hard to believe that the Dolphins would pass up on McFadden. Brown is proving to be a middle of the pack runner. Unless something drastic happens in season 4 then I don’t see much of a long-term solution better.

At worst, they could trade down.

But then again, it’s a long way to April.

Brown was really putting it together this year before his injury. But this is a sad reality of today’s NFL: teams make these massive investments in these players causing them to stick with them much longer than they ought, if only to get some kind of return on their investment.

But, like you say, it’s a long way to April. And Tipperary, I hear.

And isn’t all of this moot until Mel Kiper speaks?

What qualifications do you need to ascend to the office of “draft expert”? What makes him a draft expert, anyway? I’m guessing there must be some kind of coiffure prerequisite. He is a well-groomed man.

It is all about the hair.

Don’t the Dolphins have Ricky Williams why would they want McFadden?

  17. By Justin on Nov 26, 2007 | Reply

Because Ricky Williams likes pot a little more than he likes football.

  18. By Scott on Nov 26, 2007 | Reply

    A lot more.

I often wonder why more people don’t take their signing bonus, head to a foreign country, and roke down to their hearts contend. I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing. Is that too emergent?

    No, that’s too irresponsible :D
