Movies I’ve Seen This Week

December 29th, 2007 | by Scott |

In order of preference:

Sweeney Todd (Grade: A)
No Country For Old Men (Grade: A)
Charlie Wilson’s War (Grade: B)
Alvin and the Chipmunks (Grade: C)

I was going to go see Juno tonight but I had to watch the Pats. I plan on taking my girls to see Enchanted on Wednesday. I may be able to remain in the Oscar conversation after all.

I loved No Country For Old Men. Don’t we all feel like Tommy Lee Jones sometimes.
Saw Juno Christmas night, hadn’t planned on it,
went to see Sweeney Todd but it was sold out. So we saw Juno instead. Very glad we did, loved the
movie, Kimya Dawson music was a bonus and a Mott the Hoople reference to boot.

The only one we’ve seen is “The Great Debaters” and it is very good.

I plan on seeing Debaters and Juno as soon as possible but I might have to drive to Stillwater as soon as possible. I see a possibility for Juno to take the Little Miss Sunshine spot when the noms come out in 3 weeks.

I saw the National Treasure movie last night… it was a fun movie. I want to see The Great Debaters and Charlie Wilson’s War.

I got the book Hate Mail From Cheerleaders for Christmas and I’m loving it. Reilly is very entertaining - and touching sometimes, too.

I saw Charlie Wilson’s War and
    National Treasure Book II.

    National Treasure was great entertainment.
CWW- good too, but anger invoking…

I wonder if anyone else in this crowd will see or has seen Alvin and the Chipmunks. It was surprisingly good. OK, it was more fun watching Cassie dance along to the songs and Shayla finally sitting through a movie was a definite positive step.

CWW was great Sorkin. The storyline was perfect for his style writing. drugs, drinks, politicians, and people walking and talking.

I was kinda miffed that TPTB made him change the ending, but the more I think about it, if people didn’t understand what PSH’s character was saying, then the more straightforward ending showing bin laden and the twin towers would have just made them angry.

“Enchanted” is cute. Susan Sarandon makes an AWESOME villain. I figured Patrick Dempsey could land a stronger role than this. I know he’s all grown-up…but I still see him as the nerd “Ronald” from “Can’t Buy Me Love” - one of my top ten all-time favorites!

    Happy New Year, brutha!!!

I thought CWW was a tad uneven. I went in thinking it might have an outside shot at a best pic nom. That ain’t happening.

Chris, “Can’t Buy Me Love” is a classic.
