It Has the Makings of an Interesting Day
February 5th, 2008 | by Scott |Now, I may be proved wrong and things are decided pretty early but is sure is shaping up to make for one of the more interesting days in American politics.
First, Huckabee wins West Virginia. There probably isn’t much to read into this and it will likely be the only state he pulls. But it is an intriguing opening salvo.
Second, my dad votes for a democrat for the first time ever in a presidential election. Then Shane Alexander decides to quit living in denial
and endorse Obama.
Third, James Dobson pushes back to the forefront of the GOP campaign with an excoriating rebuke of a potential McCain presidency:
I am convinced Sen. McCain is not a conservative, and in fact, has gone out of his way to stick his thumb in the eyes of those who are. He has sounded at times more like a member of the other party. McCain actually considered leaving the GOP caucus in 2001, and approached John Kerry about being Kerry’s running mate in 2004. McCain also said publicly that Hillary Clinton would make a good president. Given these and many other concerns, a spoonful of sugar does NOT make the medicine go down. I cannot, and will not, vote for Sen. John McCain, as a matter of conscience. But what a sad and melancholy decision this is for me and many other conservatives. Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime…
Regardless of what side you are on in this debate and regardless of whether or not you agree with Campolo it’s going to be a fun night.
Finally, Campolo was on Colbert last night and weighed in for those of us who consider ourselves “Red Letter Christians:”

As a matter of fact I was going to do the top 10 issues in the 2008 election that were important to me.
But I decided against it.

Thanks for posting this it was refreshing to see someone who seems to get the point of the gospel without trying to bend it to their narrow world view. Now I might have to try and track down his book since I just checked and none of the county libraries have it.

This is why I like this blog. It shows the differences in how a variety of people see the same thing but see it so differently. I watched this clip and wondered why this man would go on this show to be made fun of and be made out to be a fool. I have never seen or heard of Tony Campolo before. Watching this clip he came across like a nut. He probably isn’t, but that was my take. John saw the same clip and it totally different. So interesting.

Gotta love anyone who says that divorce is causing the biggest problem with marriage in this country. I don’t agree with Tony on many things, but I read everything I can by him. He will always make you think.

I view Tony as one of the more important voices in evangelicalism. He is a gadfly, for sure. I too disagree with him on a couple of issues but he’s not afraid to stand up for what he feels to be Christlike.
