How Do You Read the Bible?

February 28th, 2008 | by Scott |

Scott McKnight has put together a fun little quiz on your hermeneutical style.

You can take the quiz here.

Take it and tell me how you scored. I’ll hold off on sharing my results for the time being.

    I’m Progressive!

  3. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you :D

  4. By JAW on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    82.

I’m progressive, too, but not as crazy progressive as GKB.

  5. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

And you are at Pepperdine too. Do they know you scored so low? :O

    I’m running out of emoticons.

  6. By Joe on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    86 - progressive

Am I on the verge of getting fired? I should be more careful in what I put out here on this inter-web-thingy.

  7. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

Joe, if you haven’t already been kicked to the curb then you should be fine.

  8. By GKB on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    The questions kinda suck, though.

I found myself answering #4 or #5 mostly because I was NOT #1 or #3…

  9. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

Yeah, that’s the trouble with these kinda quizzes. But it does seem to get a fairly accurate assessment of where you fall on the scale. Not you in particular but you generally.

  10. By JAW on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

I think I scored so low because there are so many Catholics at Pepperdine who’ve influenced me. I like church tradition. You know, from The Church, not necessarily our church.

  11. By Steve D on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    Solidly moderate - 60

  12. By len on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

65, at the high end of the moderate scale. I think I would be more conservative, but was limited by the phrasing of the answers.

  13. By Shane on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

78-I’d have scored higher if it didn’t tell me why I had to think what I thought in the #5’s.

  14. By Tracy on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    78. I thought I’d be more conservative than that.

  15. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

Len, it’s because you read this blog you scored so high :D

    Shane, I find that hilarious.

And, honey, you aren’t conservative. I hate to be the one to break that to you.

Reading this blog doesn’t help! If any of my Free Will Baptist buddies find out I am in big trouble.

    I scored a 45

78, Progessive, but not Episcopalian like some of you. ;-)

    83 and I’m glad I’m not employed by a church…

  21. By Chad on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

70 for me. The description seemed about right.

  22. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

I’m glad I’m not alone in the progressive camp.

  23. By Travis on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

    89… I made a B.

  24. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

It’s alright, Travis. God grades on the curve.

    70 - I call myself a Patiently Persistent Progressive. How’s that? And I’m still in a mainstream C of C!

91…. kinda upset that I’m not as progressive as GKB. Apparently, I need to study more. I used to learn so much from him before he cowtowed to the administration and turned his controversial blog into a photo blog. ;) Just joking Greg.

  33. By Krister on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

87…so close to an A. Maybe I should re-take the quiz for a higher score.

  34. By Steve Allison on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

I scored the same as Justin at 91. I would say we are within a standard deviation of Greg. Its great to be around so many CofC progressives.

  35. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

It’s a groundswell, an uprising. A new restoration.

  36. By Scott on Feb 28, 2008 | Reply

And FYI, although no one asked, I scored the same as GKB.

  37. By shaun on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

    Can anyone beat a 93?
    You call yourselves progressives.
    Ha.

  38. By Scott on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

Shaun, it’s a fine line between being progressive and being Bishop Spong :D

  39. By Phil Wilson on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

Yeah, like the difference between a 93 and 97

    ;-)

  40. By hermit greg on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

88, but half the 5s misinterpret the point.

  41. By Doug Freeman on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

If you boast about being progressive what does this mean in your service to the Lord? I attend where we are extremely involved in community outreach as well as missional worldwide. I scored a 45 so it must mean I am missing the mark.

  42. By Scott on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

It’s a fun quiz. Let’s keep it at that for now. I didn’t read anywhere in anybody’s comments that if you scored lower than others you were missing the mark. I think that we call all acknowledge that there is room for all of us no matter where we score in the Kingdom.

  43. By Tracy on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply

Yeah, I want my score to be lower.

A B! Not even B+! But at least I beat Joe.

  46. By Scott on Mar 1, 2008 | Reply

    But it’s a solid B.
