Random Bits
April 7th, 2008 | by Scott |–So, my enthusiasm for blogging has waned just a tad. The reason? Twitter. It is microblogging at its finest and I can keep up with a wide array of friends and acquaintances. It also lends itself to my short-burst mind. If you haven’t joined the craze then sign up and follow my feed here.
–I live 15 minutes away from Kansas. A number of my parishioners are KU fans. Yet I grew up 2 hours for Memphis. Hard to pick.
–I went to see “The Ruins” this weekend. I was excited because I loved the book. It was interesting because it was similar to the book but what happened to which character was changed repeatedly. It was the Greek who broke his back not the German, etc. I’m not sure what the benefit of that was. And it was giving a Hollywood Ending. What is surprising is that the author of the book wrote the screenplay. I guess he wasn’t wed to his original vision.
–Eli Stone is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on TV. It straddles the line between cheese and poignancy but I think it usually gets it right. A great show of faith and social consciousness.
–The Counting Crows lost me with their latest. The new REM is rapidly growing on me.
–Am I the only one who doesn’t like using the cross in imagery and as an icon?
–The Pure in Heart Shall See God. That’ll preach. It better because that is Sunday’s sermon.
–The Shack is as good as advertised.

I love the new Crows. But I think I’m really in the minority on that one. I’ve heard good things about the new REM.

We are getting ready to replace our sign and there was near unanimous support to NOT put a cross on the sign. We really only have one cross on the premises and it is kind of camouflaged.

Obviously, I was not happy about UNC not going all the way! But, I guess I’ll be for Memphis.
I haven’t read The Shack just yet but it’s on my list. Not exactly a beach read but that may be where it gets read.
I can’t stay online all day at work so I can’t Twitter.

I enjoy reading all your twitters when they post over here. I’ve never been an early-adopter, so I’m stuck on the old blogging. How quickly something becomes antiquated on the http://www.
I’m for Memphis, but would be more for UT!
So, should I read The Ruins?

Weird, I guess if you write www with a period you automatically create a link.

Jason, I’ve tried. I just don’t like it.
Chad, good for you guys. Oh, and by the way: my library got in World War Z. I plan to start it tomorrow.
Terri, you don’t have to be on all day to twit. Join the fray.
Amy, Twitter has been out there for over a year. Time to jump in.
And yeah, if you like a good suspense tale than “The Ruins” is definitely worth your time.

I think the cross would work for an icon if we, you know, understood its significance a little more.
Maybe an electric chair, or a picture of a hooded iraqi would be better?

Here is a random question for you: do you have any thoughts on Obama giving less than 1% of his $244,000 average income (2000-2004) to charitable causes? Of course their spokesman said that was all they could afford to give at the time.

I haven’t paid any attention to the tax returns. I’m so wearied by the Clinton-Obama fight that I haven’t been paying close attention.
