The Shack
April 9th, 2008 | by Scott |Very rarely, in all my reading, do I come across a book that is truly life-changing. Books like Mere Discipleship, Ragamuffin Gospel, A Tale of Three Kings, and A Grief Observed just don’t come along that often.
“The Shack” written by William P. Young is just such a book. It is worthy of the hype that it is receiving in the literary world right now.
Over the last few years I have undergone a transformation in my theology: a transformation that understands God as more loving, more compassionate and unconditionally intent on redeeming His creation.
So much of the issues that I have wrestled with over this course of time are contained within this fictional tale of a man confronting God at the site of his greatest heart-break. What emerges is a God of mystery that is still, ultimately, a God that can be known. A God who loves all of His creation and seeks to bring them into a healed and whole relationship with Him.
In the course of this book you will see a clear and compelling version of the Trinity. It will challenge you, captivate you and ultimately bring you to a clearer understanding of “the reckless, raging fury that they call the Love of God.”
The book is edgy and challenges some traditional doctrinal presuppositions. But don’t let that scare you off from a chance to fall deeper in love with the infinite goodness of God.
There are books that I recommend that are worth putting on your list of books to get around to. Don’t do that with this one. Pick up The Shack today.

Finished it last week… I’m with you… ditto to everything…
One of the most amazing things about the success of this book is that they spent about $2000.00 on advertising. It’s word-of-mouth that has sold it.

Ruth, thanks for the kind words. Please come back and visit.
I love Brad’s writings as well. I’ve used Stricken By God as a reference many times.
