Wii Fit: A Review
May 20th, 2008 | by Scott |Apparently, I am one of the lucky ones and I got a Wii Fit before most stores will have them available beginning tomorrow. I had special ordered one through Hastings and picked it up first thing yesterday.
First off: I love it. I know there have been some poorly reasoned responses from some people that were anti-Fit. “Just go outside” they argue. Yet, that is a myopic view of fitness. One of the first hurdles to clear in becoming a healthy and fit individual is that of motivation. If doing a video game version of exercise works for some people then who has the right to criticize that?
When I hooked it up it began to take me through the fitness profile: I tend to place weight on my left side (53% to 47%). Not too bad but I need a little bit more balance than that. The bad part is that it qualified me as obese. I knew that, it didn’t have to tell me.
But it was good because I now have a daily reference point to get me back to where I was 2 years ago. When I stopped running I lost all motivation. Having just bought a Wii and loving the time playing it should give me the motivation to lower my BMI back to healthy levels.
After tracking my BMI and my weight it then let me begin my workout. I had to select a trainer and then had the choice of workouts in four different areas: yoga, strength, aerobics, and balance. The better you do the more exercises that you can unlock.
These were not easy exercises by any means. I have never done yoga and struggled with balance. The strength exercises pushed me well and I got my heart rate up pretty well.
The best part of it all was that it was fun. By the time I got to the balance games and was trying to bounce soccer balls off of my head, I was hooked.
All in all, it is a great addition to the exercise regimen. If you have a Wii then, by all means, snap one up.

Thanks for the review, Scott. “Wii’ll” be picking that one up. We have had so much fun with ours since Christmas.

Glad to hear a good review on this from someone in the same fitness condition I’m in. I was well and in shape about 4 years ago, but I’ve lost all motivation. With our little baby arriving in a few days, Kristen is looking for a good motivator for both of us.

I’ve had a harder time jogging lately, too. Wonder what’s up with the lack of motivation so many of us are feeling?
It couldn’t be our age, could it? Nah, Wii’s are for kids, right?
Enjoy and let us know how the workouts are going!

Jim, it is a blast.
Lane, it is a lot of fun and there is an interactive component between your Mii’s.
Amy, I’m an all or nothing type of guy. If I quit doing something it is very difficult for me to get back into it.
And Wii’s are for all ages.
