Ah. . . of course, there's plenty of money and buildings in libraries, too -- causing my pastor friend to say to me one day, "Laura, I think you go to church the way I go to the library." Indeed. We all need some place to go where we simply are a patron or a congregant, not a leader.

Sounds solid. Now predict the one game that we'll go into as the underdog, but actually win, and allows us to tell ourselves how great we are, and then the one game that we absolutely should win but blow in the third quarter, never recover, and sets up a stumbling win/loss cycle that plagues us for the rest of the year.

Let's hope that Mallett has learned how to put some touch on his short passes, or he'll continue to have games like last year's against Alabama (12 for 35) or Ole Miss (12 for 34).

Also, the defense is supposed to be much improved, but I've heard that before. I'll believe it when I see consistent performance from week to week.

It is all-too-common. I'll talk more about this in the future but I'm skeptical of most minister models being tenable to the purported mission of churches.

I am looking forward to reading more. I am so sorry for the way the church treated you and your family, but am glad that you have found your faith again despite that. Unfortunately, minister abuse seems to be an all-too-common problem.

I've had the Bourne books on my list for a long time. Some day they might work their way to the top.

Glad to see Daniel Silva on this list for The Kill Artist. He writes smart (if somewhat formulaic) thrillers. To answer your question, I have read eight. You should read The Bourne Identity. Don't let the movie fool you, it's a great, very intelligent book.

I read that and almost commented. For the most part I agree with your some stay and some go position.
However, I appreciate what Rice has done. We need those who will loudly shine a light on what evangelical Christianity has become. I don't believe that all of it is redeemable and so anything that might pave the way for something new and better is desperately needed.
